When life doesn’t go according to plan…
hope is still possible.
Life doesn’t always go according to plan.
Sometimes it changes with one phone call.
One diagnosis.
One loss.
One unexpected turn.
If you’ve found your way here because life looks different than you imagined…
I’m so glad you’re here.
I write stories for people learning to find hope in the unexpected so they remember they don’t have to walk through it alone.
Stories about motherhood.
Faith.
Grief.
Disability.
Mental Health.
And the quiet courage it takes to begin again.
Discovering that sometimes the life that we never would have chosen becomes the one that changes us the most.
And there is still reason to hope.
Your Mess Is Welcome Here!
You don't have to have everything figured out. You don't have to pretend you're okay. You don't have to have perfect faith. Or perfect words. Or perfect courage.
You can come with your questions. Your grief. Your doubts. Your exhaustion. Your unexpected story.
This is a place for honest conversations. For hope that doesn't ignore suffering. For stories that remind us we are never alone.
You don't have to carry your story alone anymore.
YOU are seen here.
Joy doesn't erase the hard parts of our story. It reminds us they aren't the whole story.
Unexpectedly Perfect
A Mother’s Memoir of Down Syndrome, Grief, and Hope
If you've ever wondered whether joy is still possible after everything changes...
This story is for you!
Unexpectedly Perfect is a book about discovering that the unexpected seasons of our life can end up being exactly what you most need.
Hi, I’m Ashley.
I've spent most of my life trying to understand why life unfolds the way it does.
Writing has always been how I make sense of the world.
After my son's Down syndrome diagnosis and my mother's terminal cancer diagnosis, I began discovering that some of life's greatest gifts arrive through stories we never would have chosen.
However you found your way here, I'd love to help you take the next step.
Where are you today?
I’m navigating something unexpected.
Whether you've just received difficult news or you've been carrying it for years, you'll find prayers, reflections, and resources for the hard seasons.
I'd like to read Unexpectedly Perfect.
Learn more about the memoir, read reviews, download the discussion guide, and begin reading.
